OUTDOOR SPACES

The outdoor spaces at Creetown Sanctuary include The Peace Garden, The Hut, The Tea House and fruit and vegetable growing areas. Asheiri also uses The Gallery and outdoor spaces at Baron's Craig, Rockcliffe for meditation and events.

The Peace Garden

We wanted to allow deer and other wildlife to continue roaming the 4-acre site, so we restored an abandoned walled garden in a corner of the land and installed deer-proof fencing. We created a pond and planted white-themed flowers that needed protection from predators.

This is now a quiet space for remembrance, with a peace pole from May Peace Prevail On Earth International.

The Hut

After a number of severe storms, Nature gifted us a pile of fallen tree trunks. Along with volunteer helpers, we built a hut using the trunks, donated items and found objects such as old shed roofing and windows. We used dead ivy stems for decoration.

The Hut is now a shelter for woodland activities and small gatherings. A space is left open under the roof for owls to roost.

Growing Spaces

We used sheep's wool, vegetable waste, hummus and good soil to line our vegetable beds. We have several growing spaces including a sturdy greenhouse and sun-warmed walls that support ivy, climbing flowers and fruit.

Vegetable Beds Healthy Organic Veg

We grow 6 varieties of apple including a Galloway Pippin. The beds produce vegetables all year round and we regularly have a surplus to share among the community.

We are creating a new coppice with a variety of native trees.
